Meet Basil L. Parker

Candidate for Newark Central Ward Council

Candidate Basil Parker would like to be your next City Council Member.  He has the tenacity, spirit and hard work ethic to assist his constituents in all their needs.  Basil Parker believes in hard work in order to achieve results.  He has practiced what he has preached all of his life. 

Basil Parker has worked all his life starting as a child on his grandparents’ farm and small grocery store more than 39 years ago.  He has served this country in the U.S. Army as an artillery battalion soldier.  The Army taught him teamwork, comradery and a sense of pride because he was serving this great nation.  After his armed forces service, he enrolled in Lincoln University where he obtained an undergraduate degree in history and secondary education. 

Basil Parker has dedicated his life to serving the community of Newark in one fashion or another.  He spent 20 years in a Social Services capacity - - first as a Service Manager at Covenant House in Newark to a Care Manager at “Let’s Celebrate Inc., in Jersey City.  Let’s Celebrate is an organization that “moves people from hunger to wholeness through nutrition, financial, supportive and affordable housing services.”  Through this organization, and the services it provides, he helped rebuild the lives of displaced youths and the homeless.  Currently he serves as Director of Adult Services at 1st Cerebral Palsy of New Jersey.  In his current position, Candidate Parker negotiates, navigates and works diplomatically with all facets of state and federal agencies giving him the skill set needed to work for you.  He is also a board member and President of the Society Hill at University Heights I Association. 

  • Candidate Parker is focused on serving the City of Newark’s day-to-day needs for services as well as the long-term job and economic growth that will help ensure the vitality of neighborhoods in our Ward and Newark as a whole.
  • Public safety, emergency readiness, neighborhood beautification, and traffic reduction will be some of the quality of life issues Candidate Parker will address for his constituents.
  • At City Hall, his policy priorities will be job creation, crime reduction, bail reform law, small business development, corporate investment, infrastructure improvements, $40 million structural deficit reduction, education, affordable housing, and improvements to senior services.
  • Candidate Parker wants to work with parents and grandparents alike to ensure that our youth are getting access to the best education, sports programs and mentoring programs The Ward/Newark has to offer.  We have an obligation to our youth to provide for them the best tools necessary in order for them to succeed in life.
  • Candidate Parker has a passion for the preservation of the environment and healthy living.  By making changes today, we ensure our children have a healthy future ahead of them.
  • Candidate Parker is dedicated to improving the quality of life for Newark Central Ward families and will work effortlessly to help stimulate job growth, protect valuable small businesses, seek corporate investments, support early childhood development programs, establish high standards in education, and advocate for better senior services.
